GREENS RASAM

You tube: Greens rasam, the name itself indicates the ingredients used in this is greens viz. tulsi, basil, fresh garlic with greens, coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chilli, ginger etc.  the other day, i tried gooseberry, pudina, garlic rasam and was awesome.

since all the ingredients i used is having the medicinal value and helps in digestion, and contains the vitamins in it, once in a week or twice in a month this can be served to your family members.

Rasam can be served in place of soup as an appetizer or can be served along with rice.






Let us look at the recipe now:

Total time taken: 30 minutes
serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

a small bunch of coriander
7-8 fresh garlic with greens
1 sprig of curry leaves
1 small sprig of tulsi
1 small sprig of basil
3-4 pundina sprigs
1 green chilli small
1" pc ginger
1/2 tsp black pepper (if you get the fresh pepper, it will be fine)
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp tuvar dal
1 small tomato
a genrous pinch of asafoetida
salt
turmeric powder
a small pc of jaggery

Tempering:

1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds

Method:

wash and keep all the greens. dry roast the tuvar dal, black pepper and cumin seeds.  Put  all the ingredients in  mixer along with little water and make a paste of it. chop the tomato finely and keep aside.

Heat ghee in kadai, add the mustard seeds. when it splutters, add cumin seeds and asafoetida.  add few curry leaves if you want.  Now add the tomato and saute for few minutes.  add the green paste and saute till the water is evaporated and raw smell goes off. add salt, turmeric powder and mix well.

add two glasses of water and allow to simmer in very low flame.  You can add little bit tamarind pulp while adding tomato or amchur powder.  or before serving lime juice can be added.  healthy green rasam is ready to serve.

How to serve:

serve hot with  rice and papad.

  1. You didn't mention about the green paste do I have to grind it with water or just add it like that, I'm confused.

    thanks for visiting the blog. You have to grind it along with the black pepper, cumin and dal.
