KATHRIKA THOGAYA, BRINJAL, CHUTNEY

I have already posted Kathrika arachukalakki.  I also made along with the arachukalaki, the thogayal.  Both the dishes were too good to eat.  Normally, kathrika (brinjal ) is not liked by everyone.  Hence you can make these kind of varieties and make them to eat.

Let us look at the recipe now:


Ingredients:

1/4th portion of big baingan (bharta baingan)
1 tbsp chana dal
1 tbsp urid dal
2-3 red chillies
a big piece of tamarind
3 tbsp grated fresh coconut
1 tsp oil
a pinch of hing powder
salt
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves ( optional)

Method:

Heat oil in kadai.  separately fry the chilli, urid dal, chana dal and keep aside.  either cook the baingan in microwave for 3-4 minutes or saute the same after  frying the chana/urid dal. allow to cool.  Put all the ingredients in the mixer and grind to a smooth or coarse paste as you wish.  serve with molagootal rice, dal rice, idli, dosa, chapati etc.

Note:  You can also add shallots (Madras onion, sambar onion, cheriya ulli).

Hot plain rice with ghee or sesame seed oil and the thogayal tastes very good.
