SEVAI RAVA UPMA

Upma is a breakfast item served in every household.  It is also served as dinner.  Made out of semolina with some veggies, it is an awesome breakfast with some hot pickle, chutney or sambar.  I prefer to have it with yoghurt and lime pickle.  Normally it is made with semolina, but here I have made it with some sevai too.

Let us look at the recipe now:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup roasted  semolina
1/2 cup roasted sevai (very thin one you get readymade)
2 green chilli chopped
1 small piece of ginger chopped
1 medium size carrot chopped
1 medium size onion chopped
handful of green peas
5-6 french beans chopped
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp oil
salt
a pinch of turmeric powder (optional)

seasoning:

1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
1/2 tsp chana dal
a pinch of asafoetida
curry leaves.

Method:


Heat the oil and ghee in kadai. add the ingredients of seasoning.  when it is done, add the chopped onion, green chilli, vegetables and saute for 5 minutes.  add 3 cups of water. let it boil.  now add the rava and sevai in it and mix well.  cover and cook for 5 minutes.  In between just stir for a second.  when it is cooked, cover and keep, switch off gas.  serve hot with chutney, sambar, pickle etc.
