DAL DHOKLI

Dal dhokli is a gujarati dish.  This can be just had as it is or with rice, chapti too.  It is a wholesome meal to fill the stomach.

One of my Sindhi friend, she was basically from Baroda, makes this dish very awesome.  She gave me the same to eat one day and I liked it very much.  I asked her how to make and one day she demonstrated the entire process.

Let us look at the recipe now:

DAL DHOKLI

Ingredients:

1 cup tuvar dal boiled and mashed
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tomato finely chopped
1 onion finely chopped
3-4green chilly
turmeric powder
asafoetida
1 tbs peanuts boiled
salt
oil

Dhokli

1 cup wheat flour
1/4 tsp ajwain
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
salt
oil

Method:

Step: 1:  Boil the tuvar dal smoothly and keep aside.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a kadai,  add cumin seeds, when it splutters, add the onion saute for two minutes, then add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder,  boiled peanuts, slit green chilli, salt and cook till you get a nice masala.  Add the boiled dal in this, add garam masala, adjust salt and keep aside.  Alternatively, you can use sambar powder too.

Step 2:  In a bowl, mix the flour, ajwain, red chilli powder, salt, 2 tsp oil and make a pliable dough like you make it for chapati.

Divide the dough into equal balls and rolll the rotis with the help of rolling pin.  Cook on the tava from both the sides till the wetness goes and cut into strips and then cross cut to make  pieces  like kaju katli and keep aside.  These are called dhoklis.

Step 3:  before serving, heat the dal, when it boils, add the dhoklis in it and cook for two minutes.

How to serve:

serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves and onions, little lime juice with chapati or rice or as it is can be had.
